It's my first time here. How does it work? What are the rules for joining the library?

First, register at the library with your JIS card and sign the reader registration form. Then you can use the library services. You only need to register once at any of the UWB library branches.

Back

Do I need a new library card or will my JIS card suffice?

UWB students and staff use the JIS card as a library membership card.

Back

What are the loan periods for books and what do the colored stripes on the books mean?

Publications marked with a yellow label are available for overnight borrowing (they can be checked out at the earliest one hour before the library closes and must be returned by 9.00 a.m. the next working day); those marked with a green label can be loaned for 1 week; those marked with a blue label for 2 weeks, and those marked with a red label are documents intended for borrowing in the library only. Course books are usually borrowed for a month, UWB soft-cover university textbooks for a semester.

Back

What does "specific status" mean?

Students can borrow books with specific status for a semester, employees for 1 year.

Back

The book has a "department resource" status, what does that mean?

It means that the publication was purchased from the department's budget for the teacher; it can only be borrowed after prior agreement with the teacher.

Back

How can I find out if a book is in the library collection?

In our online catalog.

Back

Can I reserve books in the catalog or by email?

Books marked as available in the catalog cannot be ordered from the catalog, but must be borrowed directly from the library. Only titles currently on loan can be reserved in the online catalog, or you can order a book online from the depository. Books cannot be ordered by email either.

Back

The book is in storage, how can I borrow it?

Note down the library title code and ask the staff at the counter. The book will be brought to you from the depository in a moment. Alternatively, use the option to order books from the depository by logging in to the online catalog.

Back

Can I lend the book to a classmate? Can I borrow two copies of the same title?

The JIS card is non-transferable; you cannot borrow a book on behalf of a classmate on your card or borrow multiple copies of the same book.

Back

How many books can I borrow?

Students may borrow a maximum of 30 titles at a time, the public may borrow up to 20 titles, and staff may borrow as many as 99 titles at any given time.

Back

Is it possible to reserve books?

Only titles that are currently on loan can be reserved by logging into the online catalog. We will let you know by email when the title is available.

Back

How can I extend the book loan?

In person at any UWB library branch, by phone, by email or by logging in to the online catalog, in the Reader section. A book may be renewed for a maximum of twice the loan period. That is, x times, but only up to twice the loan period of the publication in question.

Back

Why can't you extend it right away?

The number of titles isn't so large that there's one book for everyone. Therefore, there is a loan period during which another user can make a reservation for a title. That way, he can get to all of them at once.

Back

Why weren't all my loans renewed when I had everything renewed?

It's better to renew the loans individually and double-check that the renewal was done correctly.

Back

Can I return books at another library?

You must return the book at the library where it was borrowed or via a bibliobox.

It is also possible to return books via the Czech Post by sending a registered parcel via Czech Post to the address of the sub-library or via Zásilkovna.

Back

Can I return my loans by mail or can someone else return them for me?

Loans can be returned in several ways: at the branch, in the biblioboxes, by sending a registered parcel via Czech Post to the address of the sub-library or via Zásilkovna.

Someone else can also return the books for you at the branch.

Back

How do biblioboxes work?

You can return books and other borrowed items from any UWB library branch or the Education and Research Library of the Pilsen Region to a bibliobox. The books will be removed from the reader's account during the next working day. If the reader returns the books after the borrowing period has expired, he/she will pay the late return fee on his/her next visit to the library.
